Turns out the letter M is not just for mom or Monday.. It’s also for mastitis.

I was like – that won’t happen to me!
P-hah!!

It sucks. Hurt so bad – I couldn’t lie on my side.
I haven’t had a fever for 5 years, some weird side effects of having my tonsils out. So much for that!
Waking up every few hours to pump just to relieve the pressure…

But, my lovely husband-Man (another thing that starts with M) took me to the Medics (aka doctor), they gave me some Medicine and told me this was pretty common.. Then we got a Meal for lunch, and a day later I’m feeling Much better, though still not to Maximum capacity of 100%.

Made me think how awful it must be for a single mom!!! Fever plus pain, I was scared to pick my son up, worrying I’d drop him…

Aaaand because when it rains – it pours, I’m pretty sure the play in 2 acts with a tiny sleep intermission our son put on for us last night means he’s teething and we should see a real deal tooth in 4 days… (can’t think of a tooth related M word)

Aaaand… This week we are preparing for the Mother-in-law to come visit…

Where’s My drink? Oh, no, wait… I’m using my Mammary glands and breastfeeding (which is what gave me mastitis to begin with)…

But, for the sake of being informative and objective: mastitis sucks, but it is quite common. It’s important to get on it right away (not like you’ll care to wait). When there’s a little lump in your breast – that’s a plugged duct. And that – you can take care of at home with warm compresses, massage and frequent feeding. When that lump makes your boob start turning red and you get a fever – you need to get your booty to the doc bc there is bacteria (from baby’s mouth through a crack in your nipple) in that plugged duct and if you don’t hit it with antibiotics, it will hit you with an abscess and then the doc will have to cut it open to drain the puss. By the way, I didn’t really have redness, just pain and fever.

Oh, and I finally got an electric breast pump! I’ve had a little manual one before that I used to get milk for cereal and what not…. Well, now I know I’ve been living like a hobo for the past 6 months! Welcome to the 21st century!

PS we are actively working on our crawling. Can now do a couple of feet backwards.
